Welcome.
Hello to you, and a warm welcome to my website.
As you are looking on a counselling/psychotherapy website, I guess you may be interested in some counselling for yourself, or perhaps enquiring for a friend. If so, you will doubtless want to know a little about me, about my qualifications and experience, and about counselling itself and how it may be able to help. I hope that these webpages will give you a taste of all the above! Just follow the links on the left hand side of this page for the relevant bits of info. When you want to get in touch, please feel free to make use of the email facility on the 'Contact' page.
About Me
So, what am I like? Well, I am a fairly down-to-earth Yorkshire woman, who likes the simple things in life - time with loved ones and friends, time alone up on the moors or by the coast and enjoying beautiful Yorkshire scenery, and watching the birds and squirrels in the garden. I have come into the counselling profession later on in life, after some years in admin/PA type of work, and found working voluntarily as a Counsellor so rewarding that I have now chosen it as my career.
Professionally, I am a fully-qualified and experienced Counsellor/Psychotherapist, accredited with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) with a First Class Honours degree in Counselling Studies, and I am registered with UKRCP (United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) as a registered independent Counsellor. I work to the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I continually seek to further my professional development in order to offer the best service possible to my clients, so I am currently studying for a Masters degree in Counselling and have recently trained to become a practitioner in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This is a recognised treatment for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and can be useful for helping those who have suffered one-off major trauma, repeated trauma such as abuse, and also helping those with phobias. I have a number of years' experience in working in general counselling, where I have helped clients with many issues, including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, childhood sexual abuse and suicidal thoughts.
Additional areas in which I have a particular interest are loss and bereavement. (I have worked as a Cruse Bereavement Care Counsellor and Supervisor, and more recently in a Hospice helping patients and their families come to terms with the prognosis of terminal illness, and in subsequent grief work.) I am also very interested in the effects of neonatal death on surviving twins. I am still involved one day a week in voluntary counselling work for an organisation, where I enjoy working as part of a team.
